THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Minister: We wait on you, O God, in the assurance that you hear and answer us -
even when our sighs are too deep for words.
People: We come into your presence, O God, knowing that we can unburden
our hearts before you.
Minister: We praise you, O God, for transforming lives so that good displaces evil;
for turning lives around so that truth overcomes all that is deceitful and corrupt.
People: Holy God, it is only because of your abundant love that we can stand before you.
ALL: Lead us, in your righteousness so that we follow your way all the days of our lives. -based on Psalm 5
*HYMN 48 Love Divine, All Loves Excelling
THE PRAYER OF ADORATION AND PRAISE** Rev. Barry W. Szymanski, J.D.
Minister: Loving God,we thank you for interfering in our lives. You saw how easy it was for us to become distracted and lost - distanced from you and from our own innermost needs.
People: Hearing our cries for guidance and direction, you sent Jesus - who is not only the Truth and the Life, but, so importantly – the Way – the way to you. And he, through the Holy Spirit, encourages us to explore new directions so that we might experience life in all its fullness – the fullness you so desire for all humanity.
ALL: As a pilgrim people always on the way towards a promised goal, we praise and adore you O God. Accept our eternal gratitude for the presence of Christ who feeds and nourishes us on the way, and for the gift of the Spirit who makes sure we do not lose the way. Amen.
*THE GLORIA PATRI (Hymn 558)
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen, Amen.

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION and THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON**
[The Minister calls us to confession, leads us in prayer and then assures us of God’s pardon.]
Minister: Let us pray:
When our behavior fails to reveal our belief that your love for us, O God, is unconditional, forgive us.
People: When we alienate others throughjudgmental or condescending attitudes, forgive us, O God.
Minister: When we believe that our faith experience is superior to the way others have come to faith, forgive us, O God.
People: When we insist, or even give the impression that the ‘way we have always done things’ is a faith requirement, forgive us, O God.
Minister: When we believe that we are justified in your eyes, O God, by our theology or our biblical knowledge, forgive us. Gracious and merciful God, remind us that the life we now live is through faith in Jesus, who loves us and gave himself for us.
People: Therefore, with the apostle Paul, we affirm with thanksgiving: “it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.” Amen.
Minister : “...We know that a person is justified not by the works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ.” (Galatians 2:16 NRSV) Hear then the good news: through faith in Jesus Christ our sins are forgiven.
ALL: Thanks be to God!
THE GREAT THANKSGIVING PRAYER
Minister: The Lord be with you.
People And also with you.
Minister Lift up your hearts.
People We lift them to the Lord.
Minister Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
People It is right to give him thanks and praise.
[The Minister continues the prayer and after he says, “acclaim your Name as we say:’ we all say:]
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.
[The Ministers continue the Great Thanksgiving Prayer and at its conclusion invite us to pray:]
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not
into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
[During the Lord's Prayer those who will serve communion should come forward.
The Minister breaks the bread and invites us all to partake.]
THE PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION (unison)
God our Father, we rejoice in the faith that draws us together, aware that selfishness can drive us apart. Let your encouragement, which we have experienced today in Word and Sacrament, be our constant strength. Keep us one in the love that has scaled our lives, and help us to live the gospel we profess as one family, united in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
