Minister: O God, who created us in love,
People: Create us anew in love as we worship you.
Minister: O Jesus Christ, who redeemed this world in love,
People: Reclaim our hearts as we worship you.
Minister: O Holy Spirit, who moves this world toward its God-appointed end,
People: Move within us as we worship you. Amen.

*HYMN 247 Come, Thou Almighty King

*THE PRAYER OF THE DAY and THE LORD’S PRAYER (unison)

Come, almighty King,
and help us your name to sing,
for you are a God of love.

Come, incarnate Word,
and make known your wonders to our souls,
for you are a God of grace.

Come, holy Comforter,
and bear witness within every heart that we belong to you,
for you are a God who creates fellowship.

Come, triune God, that we might love
and adore you all the days of our lives,
even as we pray:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

*THE GLORIA PATRI (Hymn 558)

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.

Invitation to Prayer

A Prayer of Thanksgiving (unison)

Almighty God, Author of humanity, we thank you for the heritage and privilege of our beloved country, and for the wisdom with which you have led it from its perilous beginnings, through all the difficulties and dangers to this day of grace; reverently we take it to our hearts as we lift our prayer to you, beseeching you with passionate tenderness that your people may be delivered from every evil, turned from every error, and kept in the highway of a divine vocation; that your will may be done in familial righteousness, and your purpose fulfilled in the amplitude, power and prophecy of a nation called to you for a vast and holy errand in your world. As we come to you with thankful hearts, forgive us where we have failed to serve or to live out the freedom to which we have been called, and with which we have been blessed. We ask you to hear us, good Lord. Amen.

Prayers of Petition

[Please respond ‘Amen’ to each prayer.]

*THE PSALMODY (sung) Psalm 8 sung to Rest

O Lord, our Lord, Thy majesty To see Thy glory face to face,
Is sung in all the earth; Thy goodness ev’rywhere?

Who hung the moon and stars in space,

And gave to us, Thy chosen race, All creatures bow beneath our feet;
From dust a noble birth. Through us their want attend.

For life and love so freely giv’n,

How vast the heav’ns, how small are we, May we preserve the gift of heav’n:
And yet we feel Thy care. Earth’s love that knows no end!

We cherish too, the Poppy red
